Felt Sense Video Art Therapy

Yarden Kerem, M.A.

Abstract:

In this chapter, I describe the techniques of focusing and somatic experiencing, and demonstrate the ways in which they combine in video art therapy. Both of these techniques address the natural ability to sense the body and find the sensation of the topic brought to therapy. In this chapter, I describe how video art therapy combines these two approaches. As I explain the therapeutic model, I emphasize two topics: (a) working with the various channels of sound (e.g., sound effects, text, and music) to express the felt sense via the auditory channel, and (b) using editing as a therapeutic tool.
